Moray task force launches survey to gauge impact of defence cuts on local businesses
03 December 2010
Moray task force today launched a survey to gauge how businesses throughout the region are being affected by the recent UK Government announcement on defence cuts and the knock-on effect on RAF bases in the area.
The online survey, which is available here, is designed to give an up to date picture of the impact for those businesses supplying the bases and selling products or services to RAF personnel and their families.
The information provided by businesses will be handled confidentially and will allow the task force to build up a picture of the impacts as they are unfolding, in areas including annual turnover, staff numbers and projections for future business growth.
The task force is currently working on a report which will provide a clear picture of the local impact following the meeting in London last week with Ministry of Defence and Treasury officials.
The anonymous information provided in the survey will help to inform the case being put forward by the task force for mitigating against the closure of RAF Kinloss and for safeguarding the future of RAF Lossiemouth.
Calum MacPherson of task force partner Highlands and Islands Enterprise said:
"It is extremely important for every business either supplying the RAF bases directly or providing products and services to RAF personnel and their families to spend a few minutes completing the survey.
"This will form a key part of the report being compiled by Moray task force which will enable us to influence those who are key to this within the Treasury and Ministry of Defence.
"The importance of taking part in the survey cannot be overstated - it is crucial that we have a detailed assessment of the situation as it is affecting businesses in Moray right now."
Mr MacPherson also reminded businesses which may be affected by defence cuts in Moray that the task force has set up a dedicated, free helpline on 08000 884 884.
The survey will close on Monday 13 December at 12 noon.
